Cost of Living: How DULib can support you

We know the cost of living is an increasing concern for many of our staff and students, with the University providing a range of advisory and support services both centrally and through colleges.

We want to help to support you as much as we can, and so we’ve highlighted a number of services and initiatives that we already have in place, which we hope will help in the current financial situation.

These are available to all Durham staff and students, giving you free access to some of our amazing resources.

Access to eBooks and requesting more copies

You don’t need to buy every item on your reading list! Browse the extensive number of eBooks we have in our collections (over 850,000!) available through our library catalogue, Discover and borrow them instead. And if you can’t find the item you need, request it through More Books and we’ll try to buy it and make it available through the Library – it won’t cost you a penny!

Film and television eResources

Using your Durham University login, you can access Box of Broadcasts and BFI Player – our two ‘on demand’ services for film, TV and radio – all for free!

  • Box of Broadcasts allows you to stream and record programmes from over 65 free-to-air channels and to search an archive of over 2 million broadcasts.
  • BFI Player is a video on demand service from the British Film Institute, streaming acclaimed, landmark and archive films.

Removal of charges

We no longer add charges to standard overdue items 😊 The only time we will add charges to your account is on reserved items, when another person has placed a reservation request for an item you have on loan, and you don’t return it by its due date.

Free services for staff and students off-campus

Our postal loans, postal returns and scan and deliver services are all free and available to those not currently living in a DH postcode area, saving you travel costs to and from the Library or paying for postage.

And so much more…

Take a look at our Cost of Living guide to find out more about the services listed above and many more that are available to you through DULib.
