The library has had a staff running group for a couple of years now, meeting a couple of times a week to head out and remind themselves just how flat Durham isn’t. It’s a good way to get a bit of exercise in an encouraging environment whilst having a bit of a natter.
In addition to the regular biweekly jaunts, the group has turned out en masse in 2019 to conquer the Sunderland City 5k and Durham 5/10k. So, what better way to celebrate the upcoming festive period than with the 2nd Annual Library Christmas Cracker Relay!

As the days shorten and the cold winter nights are drawing in, Hindus over the world celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Light. For several years we have worked closely with the local Indian community to host celebrations at the Oriental Museum.
In 2019 around 350 people, including local families, international and home students, and members of staff came together to mark the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. People enjoyed delicious Indian food prepared by local chef, a shadow puppet performance of the story of Prince Rama and Princess Sita, and art activities.
This year Durham University Library and Collections staff both presented at and attended the Northern Collaboration Conference in Hull. One of our colleagues, Rosi Jelfs, was also a member of the Conference Planning Committee. We know that each year, many of our students and professional support colleagues take on similar responsibilities for the first time, so we asked Rosi how she found helping organising the conference this year…
