Jill Forbes

Please state your name, full job title, and a brief description of what your job entails:

Jill Forbes.  Assistant Customer Services Manager: College Libraries.  My role involves providing advice and support to the University’s College Libraries and their staff.

How long have you worked in the library?

Since August 2024.

What would you say is the most interesting/enjoyable aspect of your job?

There are so many! The people, the place and the peace (I used to work in a secondary school!)

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?

Reading, yoga, walking down my local dene, baking bread and time with family dogs.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Not advice as such but a general phrase I like to keep in mind – Momento Mori (“remember you must die”).  Sounds morbid, but it really forces you to put everything you worry about into perspective and that most of the daily things we fret over will be forgotten and don’t really matter.

What was the last film you saw, and what would it rate out of 10?

Wicked (loved it so much went back to the cinema a second time!) – 9/10.

What are you reading at the moment, and would you recommend it?

I’m nearly towards the end of my first Agatha Christie -The Murder at the Vicarage.  Still can’t work out who it could be, so I’ll just have to wait for Miss Marple to reveal all…and yes, I’d recommend if you like a good mystery.

Which part of the world would you love to visit and why?

Too many to list but after recently returning from Rome, I would love to explore Italy further.
